Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club will host an open house from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Harbor Cove Beach, 1950 Spinnaker Drive.
The group is a competitive sport canoe club that has been active in Ventura since the early 1970s. Its members are of all ages and abilities, from adults to children ages 12-19.
The event will include an orientation to traditional Polynesian-style outrigger canoes, paddling techniques and a paddling demonstration in the Ventura Harbor. Interested participants should be able to swim and should come in comfortable attire appropriate for paddling. Children ages 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult.
In case of rain, the event might be postponed. For more information, call 200-7839 or visit www.hokuloaoutrigger.com.
If all this sounds right up your alley, come on out and give it a try! Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned pro, we invite you to join us at Harbor Cove Beach at the end of Spinnaker Drive in Ventura Harbor. Look for our white, yellow and blue canoes and head towards the large container to the left of our fleet.
You can RSVP on our Meet Up site or just show up on our beach about 15 minutes early to sign a waiver and pick a paddle. Still have questions? Shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to seeing you and sharing a day of fun on the water!
